Reports have allegedly stated that Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi has won his 7th Ballon d’Or ahead of Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema.

Messi has been favored to win the Ballon d’Or all year long on the back of his Copa America win with Argentina. However, Lewandowski, Benzema, and Jorginho have made cases for the prestigious prize as well.

Both Lewandowski and Benzema have been on a tear—turning into goal-scoring machines throughout 2021. Moreover, with Messi currently struggling to find the net in PSG and with injuries plaguing the Argentine magician, it isn’t a surprise that some people have been more inclined to give the award to the aforementioned strikers.

However, there has been a leak of information regarding the Ballon d’Or winner through Portuguese television channel RTP, announcing the PSG talisman will take home his record-extending 7th Ballon d’Or on November 29. Fans on Twitter were also kind enough to share English translations for non-Portuguese-speaking audiences.

Though it can’t be fully confirmed by the biggest football outlets and journalists, it’s still a possibility that the news is true. Surely, there will be mixed reactions from fans around the world who may or may not believe that Messi deserves it especially amid a rough second half to 2021.
