The Las Vegas Raiders escaped their Week 1 Monday Night Football showdown against the Baltimore Ravens with a 33-27 overtime victory when Derek Carr hit Zay Jones for a 31-yard touchdown. It capped off an absolutely bonkers game that featured a number of twists, turns and swings of emotion.

The game had Raiders head coach Jon Gruden feeling like a cat, via PFT's Curtis Crabtree:

“I felt like I died and woke up and died again. I was like a cat. I had multiple lives today,” Gruden told reporters after the Raiders’ wild 33-27 overtime victory over the Baltimore Ravens. “I don’t like playing like that. It was tough but we did a lot of really good things to win that football game tonight.”

Carr and the Raiders got off to a sluggish start, falling behind 14-0 in the first half. Las Vegas made multiple comebacks in the fourth quarter to tie the game, including a last-minute drive resulting in a field goal to send the game to overtime.

It looked like Las Vegas was going to win early in overtime when Carr hit Bryan Edwards for what appeared to be a game-winning touchdown, but a review showed Edwards was down just short of the goal line.

Then the unthinkable happened.

A Carr quarterback sneak fell short, and then a shockingly bad false start by Alex Leatherwood moved the Raiders back. The drive ended with a Carr pass bouncing off Willie Snead and getting intercepted in the end zone.

But just when it seemed as if all hope was lost for Las Vegas, the defense came up big by forcing another Lamar Jackson fumble. The Raiders recovered, and then after some chaotic game management, Carr hit Jones for the game-winner.

Nine lives, indeed.
