It has been a roller coaster type season for the Oakland Raiders with eyes toward making a strong playoff push in the second half of the season.

This will have to be done with a thinner secondary with rookie cornerback Gareon Conley being placed on season-ending IR on Monday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

In his first campaign, Conley sparsely saw the field playing in just two games recording seven total tackles and one pass deflection over that span. He had been battling a shin injury throughout the season, but this move signals an end to a disappointing rookie campaign.

The Raiders had taken Conley late in the first round of this year's draft in hopes that he could become a huge part of the secondary and potentially start down the line to replace Sean Smith. However, his constant struggles with injuries put him out of the mix almost entirely.

The lack of consistent play from the secondary against the pass has been one of the major issues for the Raiders over the last couple of seasons. The loss of Conley now puts them in a further bind with their eyes toward turning things around over the second half of the season.
