The Los Angeles Rams just celebrated in style during their Super Bowl parade last week. But it wasn't all happy for quarterback Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly.

The Rams QB and his wife were asked by photographer Kelly Smiley if they wanted a photograph while on stage. Smiley stepped back and accidentally fell off the stage, which later was discovered had fractured her spine.

The couple eventually came to her aid, footing all her medical expenses and replacing her camera gear that was broken after the fall. However, Matthew Stafford's reaction during that exact moment went viral – which he now hugely regrets:

The couple talked about the Rams QB's unfortunate reaction and how they immediately showed remorse over what happened behind closed doors.

Via Gina Vivinetto of Today:

“Long story short, we followed up with her,” said Kelly on their couples' podcast. “The moment we got in the car, Matthew actually looked at me and said, ‘Hey, will you contact the Rams, ask how she’s doing?’ Did that, they’re like, ‘We think she’s going to be OK.’ We sent her flowers. Next day we wake up, (she's) not OK,” she explained.

“Yeah, I mean, that obviously happened really quickly and suddenly and unexpectedly, and wish I had a better reaction in the moment,” Matthew Stafford followed. “I didn't. I apologized to her for that, but glad that all in all she's doing all right.”

The Rams star and his wife will use the moment as a learning opportunity as they wish Smiley a speedy recovery.
