Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Robert Woods has played the past three seasons on one of the team-friendliest deals in football. Now, he's almost due for a new contract—and a raise.

Woods, the USC product, has become one of the most reliable receivers in the NFL—if not always flashy—averaging 88 receptions (on 134.5 targets) for 1176.5 yards the past two seasons. But the 28-year old has upped his production while playing on the 5-year, $34 million contract he signed in 2017.

Woods told the Los Angeles Times “I feel good” about his impending contract negotiations, and hinted that he was “in a little bit of talks early on” with the Rams.

As training camp opens up, Woods said his current goal is “just coming out here showing them that I’ve been working on my game and pick up where I left off…Come in looking built, looking yoked, feel fast and ready to get paid, for sure.”

Woods has clearly emerged as a favorite target of quarterback Jared Goff.

“Some guys are not easy to throw to…they’re either too fast, or too small, or whatever,” Goff said. “Robert’s just kind of got that good feel about him. You’ll watch him this year and the way he’s able to speed up and slow down to adjust to the football, it’s a quarterback’s dream.”

The Rams have gotten themselves in cap trouble in recent years with lucrative spending on Goff, halfback Todd Gurley, and wide receiver Brandin Cooks, who received a whopping $81 million deal ($50 million guaranteed!). The team dealt Gurley and Cooks early into their new deals. Goff meanwhile seemed to regress in 2019 after leading the team to a Super Bowl LIII appearance.

L.A. has a slew of crucial upcoming contract decisions to make. This includes star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds, tight end Gerald Everett, and safety John Johnson–all of whom are entering the last year of their rookie deals.
