Ther are plenty of bromances that currently coexist on the same team throughout the league. That said, one would be hard-pressed to name a more compatible pair than Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry and shooting guard DeMar DeRozan.

However, they were not always the two peas in a pod that fans have come to know them as today. During an appearance on The Woj Podcast with Adrian Wojnarowski, DeRozan says he and Lowry never even had a conversation during their first season together as teammates:

“My first year with Kyle (Lowry), (we) didn’t say a word to one another. We didn’t speak. We didn’t have a conversation. We didn’t hang out. We didn't go eat. We didn’t sit next to each other. I didn’t have his phone number.”

The revelation is a bit astonishing considering how close the two are now both on and off the court. Then again, things were not as peachy in Toronto then like they are now.

Prior to joining the Raptors in the 2012-13 NBA season, Lowry was still struggling to establish himself as a legitimate starting point guard in this league after stints with the Memphis Grizzlies and Houston Rockets. Meanwhile, DeRozan was still transitioning himself to becoming the Raptors' franchise player after a down season the year before. Needless to say, both players had a lot on their minds when they became teammates which did not leave many opportunities for them to get acquainted.

However, as their friendship started to blossom, so too did Toronto's legitimacy as an Eastern Conference contender. That said, they will need every advantage they can get if they are going to avoid another sweep in this year's playoffs.
