The Toronto Raptors will name assistant coach Nick Nurse as their new head coach, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Toronto Raptors are hiring assistant Nick Nurse as the franchise's new head coach, league sources tell ESPN. Sides are working through details of contract now.

The Raptors were one of the last teams to join the market for a new head coach, with the likes of the New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks, and Charlotte Hornets already filling their vacancies.

Former head coach Dwane Casey even managed to agree to a five-year deal with the Detroit Pistons before the Raptors found a replacement for him in Nurse.

Nurse saw interest from across the league and interviewed for other franchises after the regular season, but he'll be staying put after all, taking over as Casey's successor, tasked with leading an All-Star backcourt past their woes from the last few postseasons.

Toronto has been swept at the hands of the Cleveland Cavaliers during the last two playoff appearances, and even though they managed to muster the best record in franchise history and the top seed in the Eastern Conference, they will now have heftier goals for this franchise moving forward.

The Raptors will have to address pieces that can deliver in the postseason, but they should see some familiarity under Nurse, who has been with the franchise since 2013.
