The Toronto Raptors and their fans witnessed a scene they did not want to see happen to theirs or any other player as Kyle Lowry fell to the floor and hitting his back hard after getting fouled off an offensive rebound. He initially got up to his feet but his legs quickly buckled and he had to be carried off the court by his teammates as he was clearly in a lot of pain.

Tests were done to him inside their locker room and now it’s being reported that he suffered an acute back spasm. His availability for their game on Tuesday versus the Miami Heat is unclear, but he will be re-evaluated prior to tip-off, according to Eric Koreen of The Athletic.

Should Lowry be forced to miss the game, it will be a huge blow to the Raptors, who will be needing his services and leadership especially coming off an overtime win on the road. The All-Star point guard is slowly regaining his old form and is playing better as the season progresses. He has yet to average the same numbers he had in the past couple of years but is producing 16.2 points, 6.1 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

Fred VanVleet is expected to see an uptick in his usage if Lowry will be forced to remain on the sidelines, while Delon Wright should play more minutes at the backup point guard spot. That said, DeMar DeRozan will need to carry the majority of the scoring load against Miami if they want to extend their current winning streak to six games.
