Kyle Lowry has a well-storied friendship with former teammate DeMar DeRozan, the new San Antonio Spurs shooting guard that will be coming back to familiar confines in a visit to The North to face his former franchise, the Toronto Raptors.

Asked of what connected him to DeRozan, Lowry couldn't help but throw some jabs out there.

“I don't really like him,” joked Lowry, according to Josh Lewenberg of TSN. “When you meet certain people and you're brought together by basketball you don't have a certain reason why, or this or that, it just happens.”

Their bond quickly escalated from two guards finding themselves in a backcourt tandem to two inseparable friends sharing a bond unlike many other backcourts in the league.

“He's a lifelong friend,” said a nostalgic Lowry. “One day we'll retire, we'll be hanging out on a porch drinking lemonade together. That's what you cherish about the friendship.”

Lowry and DeRozan had the NBA's ideal bromance for six seasons, becoming attached by the hip in road trips, dinners, and even post-game interviews — always looking to get the best of one another.

Asked of the crowd's reaction once he makes his awaited return to the Scotiabank Arena, Lowry expects nothing but loud cheers and adoration, while still keeping an eye on his goals.

“I think it'll be well deserved for what he's done for this city,” said Lowry of DeRozan's reception. “The fans appreciate it and it should be celebrated. But for us, we have to go out and win this game… He's the enemy tonight.”
