Masai Ujiri had to endure a long legal battle due to an incident that occurred during the 2019 NBA Finals involving security at Oracle Arena when the Toronto Raptors won the championship. After the lawsuit was dropped against Ujiri, the Raptors president released this powerful message after being vindicated:

Back in the 2019 NBA Finals, when the Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors at Oracle Arena, Ujiri was attempting to make his way to celebrate with his team. However, security stopped him from doing so, assaulting Toronto's president in the process.

In the past couple of years, the security officer who pushed Ujiri filed a lawsuit against the Raptors executive for allegedly lying about his credentials. However, video from the incident vindicated Ujiri, and the lawsuit was dropped against him as the truth continues to come to light.

Before the organization shared Ujiri's message on this situation, they also released a video on their official Twitter that was filmed last summer:

Seeing what we know now, it seems as if it has been essentially confirmed that Ujiri was racially profiled by the security officer at Oracle Arena. As a result, Ujiri was unable to experience the championship celebration that he dreamed of having when he became an executive in the NBA.

Despite this, Ujiri has used his personal anecdote to speak out on racial issues, attempting to give a voice to those who are scared to share their experiences. Hopefully, Ujiri's situation shows everyone that there is plenty of progress to be made when it comes to equality in America.
