As part of a recent appearance with the media, Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse revealed that some of his players have discussed the possibility of going home to show their displeasure with racial injustices in the United States, including the shooting of Jacob Blake over the weekend.

Eric Koreen of The Athletic shared this news on Wednesday morning. Names were not revealed in the report, but at least two Raptors players have already voiced their opinions on this matter: Fred VanVleet and Norman Powell.

And while it's true that they are isolated, Nurse feels that the players can still express their beliefs inside the NBA's bubble complex:

The Raptors celebrated a first-round sweep over the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday. However, their celebration was short-lived after learning of Blake’s shooting.

According to multiple reports, Blake is in critical condition after taking at least seven bullets to his backside from police officers in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He is reportedly paralyzed from the waist down as a result of his injuries. Notably, Blake’s shooting comes just three month after that of George Floyd’s.

Whether or not VanVleet, Powell, or any other players will actually boycott playoffs games remains to be seen. Raptors and Boston Celtics players have discussed the possibility with each other. It may be an unprecedented gesture in the NBA.

Ultimately, these players are frustrated with the slow pace of racial equality and the excessive use of police force. Several stars around the league have expressed similar sentiments, including Los Angeles Lakers standout LeBron James, who noted that he is “terrified as a Black man” after Blake's shooting.

The Raptors are set to face the Celtics in the second round of the 2020 NBA Playoffs. Game 1 is scheduled to tip at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday night, with ESPN having live broadcast coverage.
