Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse is the leading candidate to coach the Canadian national basketball team at the FIBA World Championships in China from August 31 to September 15, 2019, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

There are already reports that both sides have agreed to terms of the deal, but it hasn't been officially announced yet.

Nurse just led the Raptors to the NBA Finals for the first time in the franchise's history, which is the main reason why he has reportedly been chosen to coach the country's national team. He's not a newbie in international basketball either, as he was the lead assistant coach of Great Britain in the 2012 London Olympics.

Should a deal be made official, Nurse will coach the Canadian national team in addition to his responsibilities as the Raptors' coach. It will be similar to the situation of coach Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs, who will also coach Team USA in the world championships.

Nurse has undoubtedly exceeded expectations in his first year as the coach of the Raptors. They just defeated the league-leading Milwaukee Bucks despite being down in the conference finals two games to none. They have won the next four games of the series through their dedication to defending Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Now, Nurse is facing two major tasks; lead the Raptors to the NBA championship by beating the Golden State Warriors and Canada Basketball to the World Cup title.
