Via a press release from the Toronto Raptors, Marc Gasol is officially a Raptor. The Memphis Grizzlies had dealt Gasol for Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, C.J. Miles, and a future second-round pick.

Raptors president Masai Ujiri said in the press release:

“Marc brings significant playoff experience to our team, which along with his savviness and leadership skills really helps position us for our ultimate post-season goal. We look forward to welcoming Marc to our city and team.”

As the rest of the East gears up for the up for the playoff, the Raptors decided that they would need to make a move to match the rest of the conference. The Milwaukee Bucks acquired Nikola Mirotic from the New Orleans Pelicans. This gives them yet another efficient shooter from deep. The Philadelphia 76ers acquired Tobias Harris from the Los Angeles Clippers, solidifying their fourth star on the roster.

Teams are going all in this season. This is what made the Raptors pull the trigger on Gasol. Kawhi Leonard is on the last year of his deal, and he's likely not going to stay in Canada after this season. This is the last year the Raptors have a chance to succeed in the playoffs. Kyle Lowry isn't getting any younger either.

Acquiring Gasol gives them a legitimate rim protector who can spread the floor as well. The former defensive player of the year has dealt with injuries over the past couple of years. Hopefully, a change of scenery and promise of a deep playoff run will keep him energized for the long push.

The 7'1″ big man is averaging 15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, and a career-high 4.7 assists per game this season while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from beyond the arc.
