In his prime, Vince Carter was one of the most skilled players in the NBA. His amazing jumping and dunking prowess endeared him to millions of fans around the globe. While playing for the Toronto Raptors, Carter became an icon and was widely considered to be the second coming of NBA legend Michael Jordan.
However, in the years following, Carter moved on from Toronto and hasn't been the same ever since. Carter's heavy reliance on athleticism has severely deteriorated his body to the extent where Carter isn't nowhere near his former self. Still, the Raptors have internally discussed their plans of bringing back Carter in order to retire his jersey somewhere down the line, per Michael Grange of Sportsnet.

But if you look at Vince’s numbers, as long as he has three days off [between games], he’s really good… Bringing back Vince could be something that happens next year just as more of a ceremonial thing, where they sign him to a one-day contract and he retires in a Raptors jersey. I think that’s more likely what ends up happening.”
If Carter returns to Toronto, it is likely that he will finish his career with his former team. Currently, Carter is playing for the Sacramento Kings. He is averaging 5.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 16 minutes. At 41 years of age, Carter can provide a veteran presence for the Raptors as they try to make a deep postseason run. More importantly, the Raptors can truly celebrate Carter by retired his jersey some time in the future.
