The dust hasn’t even settled and yet the Toronto Raptors are already very eager to replace former head coach Dwayne Casey. A lot of names have surfaced over the past week or so, but according to reports three familiar coaching names have been ruled out.

Jeff Van Gundy is reportedly no longer being considered as an option for the franchise. His last stint as a head coach in the NBA was a four-year tenure with the Houston Rockets which ended in the 2006-07 season.

His older brother Stan Van Gundy has also allegedly been crossed off the list. SVG will need to wait a while longer before he is able to secure his next coaching job after recently being fired by the Detroit Pistons just this month.

Another candidate that that won’t be moving to Toronto anytime soon is former Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson. Similar to Jeff Van Gundy fans have recently grown accustomed to Jackson doing regular game coverage as a commentator and basketball analyst.

Considered by many as the front-runner for the vacancy is Mike Budenholzer  who recently parted ways with the Atlanta Hawks after five years at the helm. The 48-year-old would be a good fit for the Raptors and his championship experience – he won four titles with the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach to Gregg Popovich – will definitely be a crucial factor.

However things pan out for the Raprtos over the next few months one thing is for sure – something major has to change after being swept yet again by LeBron James despite finishing the regular season with the best record in the Eastern Conference.
