The Toronto Raptors have traded veteran big man Greg Monroe and a second-round draft pick to the Brooklyn Nets, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

The Nets plan to waive Greg Monroe, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic. Monroe will be a free agent, allowing him to sign with any team of his choice once he clears waivers.

Greg Monroe played in 38 games this season for the Raptors. The 28-year-old averaged 4.8 points and 4.1 rebounds while shooting 46.0 percent from the field and 57.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Toronto acquired All-Star big man Marc Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday, thus making Monroe expendable. Monroe signed a one-year deal worth the vet minimum with the Raptors last summer.

Even though Brooklyn is in the playoff chase, they really don't need the services of Monroe since they have front court depth already. The Nets are having their best season in quite some time.

We will likely know which teams will have interest in Greg Monroe later in the week when the dust settles. Monroe can provide a team with bench scoring and rebounding. He has career averages of 13.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 627 NBA games with the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, Boston Celtics and Raptors.
