One of the biggest surprises last season was the emergence of Baltimore Ravens running back Alex Collins in a full-time role. He took full advantage of the opportunity, becoming one of most productive backs in the league down the stretch.

It has put him in the position to be the clear-cut starter to open up the 2018 season. According to Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com, Collins voiced that this has become his primary goal heading into this year.

“That’s my main focus,” Collins said as the Ravens’ strength and conditioning program kicked off. “I know I’m capable of it. It’s more so just me trying to show everyone else that capability as well.”

In his first year with the Ravens, he finished 11th in the league with 973 rushing yards, while his 4.6 yards per carry ranked eighth-best with 12 starts. This includes his first two 100-yard performances.

With his strong performance last year, Collins should have a leg up on the rest of the competition over the likes of Javorious Allen and Kenneth Dixon next season. Baltimore could lean on him earlier in the season to get him going as a dependable option in the backfield.

Collins could be used more often in the passing game building off his 23 catches for 187 receiving yards from last season. He'll be an effective all-around threat if he's able to excel as a receiver out of the backfield, like Allen. In his first few seasons in the league, he has recorded at least 45 receptions and 500 receiving yards twice in three years.

Simply put, there is a prime opportunity in front of Collins to showcase that he can effectively be a bell-cow running back for the Ravens to help give them a formidable rushing attack this upcoming campaign, and well beyond.
