To say the Baltimore Ravens wide receiver corps is weak right now be an understatement, and it appears that it will stay that way until at least the NFL Draft. Willie Snead and Chris Moore are the only receivers on the roster right now that caught a pass last year, but general manager Eric DeCosta is trying to preach patience.
DeCosta points out that last season it made a lot of sense for the team to attack free agency to get wide receivers, but with not as many quality wideouts in free agency this year, DeCosta thinks the best way to get quality wideouts is through the draft.
“I think patience,” DeCosta said via ESPN. “We did not look at free agency as really a great way to address the wide receiver position this year. Last year, we thought it made a lot of sense. There were a lot of receivers in free agency last year. It didn’t make as much sense for us this year. We look at the draft as an opportunity to do that. We also still think that there maybe some players that might be interesting to us at a later date, that are on the market, that might become available, that could help our football team.”
Even with DeCosta's comments, it will be interesting how aggressive they are trying to get wide receivers in. With Lamar Jackson under center, this is a run first team, so it might not be important to spend high draft picks on a wideout.
