Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey recently tested positive for COVID-19 although the league and its medical experts have yet to find evidence of on-field transmission, as per NFL Network‘s Tom Pelissero.

The Ravens eventually released a statement on Twitter in lieu of the developments regarding Humphrey's situation:

The Alabama product also posted the news on his Twitter account and hopes to be back soon:

As one of the promising young defensive players in the league, he earned himself a five-year, $97.5 million contract extension with $66 million guaranteed, with the Ravens back in early October of 2020. He continued to show his worth as he produced a total of 40 tackles and four forced fumbles through seven games played midway through the season.

He still managed to appear in their most recent game against division rival Pittsburgh Steelers where he contributed two total tackles. A scoreless third quarter by the Ravens proved to be pivotal for the team as they narrowly lost on a 28-24 outcome. The defeat dropped the Ravens to a 5-2 campaign while the Steelers preserved their unblemished record and remain atop the AFC North division.

The All-Pro cornerback will be required to clear the league's COVID-19 protocols before being able to participate in team activities. The Ravens now have limited depth in the cornerback position behind starters Jimmy Smith and Marcus Peters moving forward.

Hopefully, Humphrey will be able to have a swift recovery from the virus and eventually make it back to the field for the Ravens in the near future.
