The Boston Red Sox dropped their fourth series in a row after coming away with a 9-5 road loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

Boston's pitching staff has been leading the way as of late amid the offense’s lowly start to the 2022 season, although the unit struggled to get much going in the series finale against the Orioles. From the six-run sixth inning to the five hits recorded with runners in scoring position, the Orioles had the last laugh over their AL East rival on the day.

The Red Sox now hold a 9-14 record through 23 games played and also sit at fourth place in the AL East. Red Sox manager Alex Cora has no time for motivational speeches at this point in the campaign but simply recognizes that he has to be upfront with his squad on its sluggish start to the season.

“You have to be genuine and transparent with them,” Cora said after the game. “They know it. There’s no rah-rah speeches here. Everybody knows our record, everybody knows what we went through. Like I’ve been saying it’s not that far from turning it around.”

A turnaround for Boston at this early stage in the season would certainly hinge on whether it can soon turn around its production at the plate. The AL East powerhouse entered Sunday’s contest ranking 21st in batting average (.225) and 24th in runs scored (76).

The Red Sox will now have a much-needed day off on Monday before they open up a three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday.
