In the past week, the Washington Redskins backfield has taken some hits due to injury that began with rookie Derrius Guice suffering a torn ACL that has ended his 2018 campaign before it started.

According to Tom Pelissero of The NFL Network, third-year running back Byron Marshall could miss the start of the regular season due to an ankle injury.

Marshall is coming off his first campaign with the Redskins where he played in a limited role taking the field in four games rushing for 32 yards on nine carries along with six catches for 36 receiving yards. Marshall is expected to provide more depth in the backfield with his versatility to be a factor as both a runner and receiver. However, this injury could keep him off the field for the next month while further testing Washington's group of running backs.

The loss of Guice has already pushed Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson into more prominent roles. This latest injury could push them to lead more of this duo along with mixing a bit of Rob Kelley into the mix. There are many different ways that the Redksins could go about handling this situation. Both Perine and Thompson have shown that they can be high-impact players in the offense when given the opportunity.

This injury to Marshall will simply put more focus on their remaining crop of talent at the position while possibly providing more opportunities to prove themselves. It could open up a few more snaps for the likes of Kelley and Thompson to play bigger roles than was originally anticipated.
