Dwayne Haskins may be the Washington Redskins' quarterback of the future, and he may be the favorite to win the starting job in 2019, but that does not mean the Redskins aren't going to make him work for it.

According to JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington, Case Keenum actually took the first reps under center at the start of Washington's organized team activities on Monday. Haskins was next up with Colt McCoy still recovering from a broken leg.

This does not come as much of a surprise and is pretty much standard procedure.

While Haskins is obviously the guy long term, the Redskins don't just want to hand him the keys and instead would naturally prefer to push him to get the best out of him in training camp.

It would not even be a shock if Keenum ends up winning the opening-day job, as he has ample experience as a starter and actually led the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship Game two years ago.

Still, with Washington likely not having a shot at making the playoffs this coming season, you would have to think that at some point, Haskins would at least see some reps.

The Redskins acquired Keenum in a trade with the Denver Broncos before the draft, as it was not clear that Haskins would even be available when Washington picked at 15th overall in the first round. As a matter of fact, it was considered unlikely, as most felt the New York Giants would take Haskins at No. 6.

But, Haskins ultimately ended up falling into the Redskins' laps.
