Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams is one of the best in the NFL. He's also not at training camp right now.

It's been known for some time now that Williams has an issue with the Redskins. It's not 100% sure if it's with the medical staff (which some have speculated) or with his contract. Or it could be a combination of things.

However, now it's a certainty that his displeasure will leak into camp time. Redskins head coach Jay Gruden was asked about it and gave a very calm answer.

While you could say this is a default response, it's still a good one. Gruden kept his cool and did nothing but compliment Williams. If you want to keep the relationship strong and find a way to bring him back long-term, this is the right first step.

Williams is one of the best in the NFL on the offensive line. Therefore, he's one of the most important players on the team in normal circumstances. However, the Redskins are in a position where he's somehow even more important.

Washington drafted quarterback Dwayne Haskins in the first-round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He's expected to be the franchise quarterback for a long time. That can't happen if he isn't protected though.

What's a little worrying about this though is that Gruden admits he hasn't talked to Williams. That makes it seem as if the two sides haven't really communicated and that not only is a deal not be worked out, but that someone doesn't want to talk at the moment.

Williams has been a member of the Redskins since he was drafted back in 2010. Could his days be numbered? Or will they figure all this out soon enough? Only time will tell.
