A shoulder injury suffered in Week 2 kept former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Sean Davis out for the remainder of the past season. This offseason, the 26-year-old signed a one-year deal worth $5 million with the Washington Redskins.

Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Davis is focused on having a bounce-back year with Washington while also lamenting on former Redksins safety Sean Taylor, who Davis said he often watched growing up.

In 2018, Davis was a major impact player for the Steelers, as he recorded 80 tackles, seven passes defended and one interception.

The Davis signing was a much-needed one for Washington, as the team ranked 18th in the NFL in terms of passing yards allowed last year. Moreover, the 35 passing touchdowns that they allowed were the third-worst mark in the league.

Davis joins cornerback Kendall Fuller, offensive guard Wes Schweitzer and linebackers Kevin Pierre-Louis and Thomas Davis as the team's major free-agents signing thus far.

Washington is also retaining linebackers Nate Orchard and Jon Bostic while quarterback Case Keenum and offensive lineman Ereck Flowers have signed elsewhere.

Davis played collegiately at Maryland from 2012-15, during which he earned 2015 honorable mention All-Big Ten honors as he led the nation with five forced fumbles. It was the second-most in a single season in school history.

As a whole, the Redskins struggled in 2019 and went 3-13, finishing with the second-worst record in the NFL. In 2020, the team will be led by former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera who will be in his first year as Washington's head coach.
