The Washington Redskins are now 0-3 to start their 2019 NFL season, and many are beginning to question if Jay Gruden will remain with the team throughout the year. During Tuesday’s episode of First Take on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith offered his opinion, saying that he believes Gruden must be fired sooner rather than later.

Smith started off his statement by saying that he believes Gruden knows his stuff when it comes to football, but he hasn’t seen Washington being led in some time. According to Smith, coaching a team is also about being able to lead those underneath you, and Smith doesn’t see that when it comes to Gruden.

Washington came into the 2019 NFL regular season with high hopes, and looked pretty competitive in its opening game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. However, Washington dropped its next two in somewhat embarrassing fashion, including a loss on Monday Night Football to the Chicago Bears that saw them down 28-0 at one point.

Combined with the many injuries the team has suffered and a fairly tough schedule remaining, many are beginning to question just how long Gruden has left as a coach, despite the team's insistence that no changes will be made.

Washington will next try to claim their first victory of the year against the New York Giants, who won their first game of the season last week when rookie quarterback Daniel Jones led the team on a massive comeback over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A loss to the Giants would drop Washington to 0-4, and almost increase the heat on Gruden’s already hot seat.
