The Washington Redskins had a disappointing 2019 campaign, finishing last in the NFC East with an overall record of 3-13. However, the organization is seeking to turn things around after hiring new head coach Ron Rivera.

In a recent interview, 14-year veteran Thomas Davis expressed that Rivera will make the Redskins “competitive immediately.”

“I expect a complete culture change,” Davis said, via NBC Sports Washington. “I expect that team to go in and be competitive immediately. Coach Rivera definitely connects to the players on a one-on-one level,” he said. “He knows how to reach players exactly where they are, and he knows how to get the most out of them. He’s done a great job of that in Carolina, and I don’t expect that to be any different in Washington.”

Davis was coached by Rivera for eight seasons, so he has a good understanding of what Rivera is all about. During Rivera's tenure with the Carolina Panthers, he had an overall record of 79-67-1 and a .541 winning percentage. In addition, Rivera won the NFL Coach of the Year Award in 2013 and 2015.

Nonetheless, Rivera is known for being a great defensive-minded coach, which is what the Redskins needed. Last season, the Redskins had one of the worst defenses in the league. They allowed 27.2 points per game, which was 27th worst in the league.

The Redskins are hoping defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio and Rivera can help turn the organization around this upcoming season. They'll be seeking to have a winning record for the first time in four years.
