Trent Williams was finally granted his wish and was given permission from the Washington Redskins to seek a trade. Despite receiving the go-ahead to find a trade, Williams is asking for an expensive contract extension from whoever trades for him.

Last offseason, Williams began a holdout with the Redskins, and everyone assumed that it pertained to his contract. However, it was discovered that the veteran left tackle was agitated with the way Washington handled a tumor that was found on his head.

As a result, Williams sat out the entire 2019 season and remained away from the Redskins. But after Ron Rivera was hired, Washington was hoping to mend the relationship with Williams. Even though both sides had ‘positive' talks, Williams remains firm on wanting to play elsewhere in 2020.

Regardless of where he plays next season, Williams carries a cap hit of $14.5 million. In addition, whoever wants to acquire the Oklahoma product, will have to shell out a lucrative extension to keep him around.

Of course, the Redskins have more than enough cap space to pay $20 million annually. Though, Washington has shown that they have no intention of spending that much on Williams.

On the other hand, there are undoubtedly going to be teams interested in making a move for Williams. Before sitting out the 2019 season, Williams was a seven-time Pro Bowler. For nine consecutive seasons, he was one of the most dominant left tackles in the NFL.

There are quite a few tackle-needy teams that will likely call Washington in the near future. Whether they are willing to pay $20 million annually remains to be seen.
