The microscope seems to amp up its focus in the postseason, especially in close games. Ultimately, you’d hope that it would be primarily on how the players performed in crunch time with all of the pressure, and not on the referees.

In the regular season, missed calls are ignored for the most part. However, when they impact the outcome of a playoff game, fanbases resort to outrage.

In Game 1 of their first round series, the Boston Celtics fell to the Atlanta Hawks by one point despite facing a double digit deficit for much of the night. With the game on the line, it appears that the C’s were up against not only the Hawks, but the officials as well.

The NBA released their Last Two Minutes report for the Saturday games, and the results won’t make Celtics fans happy.

According to the report from the league, a total of three missed calls went against Boston in the final two minutes of the game.

The first was a 3-second violation that wasn’t called against Kent Bazemore with 1:58 remaining, which would’ve given the Celtics a free throw.

The other two were consecutive missed illegal screen calls against Al Horford, allowing the Hawks to continue their possession at a key moment.

One missed call actually did go in Boston’s favor. With 1:54 to go, Kyle Korver was wrongly assessed with a foul call, resulting in a pair of free throws by Isaiah Thomas. Considering that came just a few seconds after Bazemore got away with a three-second violation, it doesn’t seem as egregious.
