Indianapolis Colts receiver TY Hilton is a former pro bowl selection. However, with quarterback Andrew Luck on the mend, it appears the NFL franchise is considering a move that would require the receiver to be used as trade bait.
According to a report by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on Sunday night, the Colts are willing to trade three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver T.Y. Hilton before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday at 4 p.m. EST.
The Colts now unlikely to make the playoffs barring a miracle, and with the logical next step being a build to a better roster next season when a healthy Luck returns (everyone hopes), gauging interesting for TY Hilton on the market isn't an awful idea.
For what it is worth, here is how Florio explains the current “standing” of the trade situation:
As one league source with knowledge of the Hilton-Colts relationship suggested, “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.” But it’s believed that it will take plenty of fuel to make it burn.
Florio added that sources have told him that Hilton prefers to stay in Indianapolis and likely will not be willing to re-work his contract to facilitate a trade. This is a pretty important part of a potential trade, as it appears the Colts are as much looking to dump Hilton's contract as they are in trying to get assets in return for him.
We are only a few hours away from the trade deadline hitting. We're going to read and hear a ton of reports (and rumors) in regards to possible trades. Let's keep our eyeballs peeled for more information.
