Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant‘s time in Oklahoma City together might have not always been what it seemed.

According to a recent podcast from ESPN's Royce Young, that relationship was very strained even just five years ago:

“After the 2011 season, Durant wanted to sit down with Sam Presti, and wanted a meeting with him to talk about Westbrook. I didn't put this in the piece but I'm willing to say it now. The person who told me this said that Durant was telling people that Westbrook was literally the worst teammate he'd ever had, and he didn't want to play with him anymore.”

While they certainly became one of the most formidable duos in the league, Westbrook's ball-dominant style of play makes it understandable why Durant might have been a frustrated by it in their early days together. However, it also seems that the two became extremely close off the court.

Durant and Westbrook made an NBA Finals appearance the year after KD's supposed complaint. Durant won the MVP award in the 2013-14 season, and they both are consistently some of the best players in the NBA on a nightly basis. They obviously put their egos aside the last few seasons for the betterment of themselves and the Thunder, but after eight seasons together, it's now time for a new chapter in each of their careers.
