Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the first-ever RE title to exceed 10 million sold copies in the franchise. Resident Evil 7 sales have so far been the best for the franchise.

The Resident Evil franchise has been ongoing for 25 years now ever since its release back in 1996. It’s undeniable that the franchise has become a staple in the gaming world’s horror genre. Resident Evil not only has games but the franchise ventured into the entertainment scene as well.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is officially Capcom’s second best-selling game next to Monster Hunter World which sold 17.3 million units. It’s worth noting that Resident Evil: Village could soon take over the number two spot. RE: Village currently stands at 4.5 million units sold in just two months. Because both RE7 and RE: Village are part of the franchise's main series, they could rank higher in the best-selling titles of all time. Technically speaking, other Resident Evil titles already sold over 10 million units. However, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has the distinction of reaching 10 million without the help of remakes and remasters.

Back in 2020, the franchise set a new record becoming the first Capcom franchise to hit 100 million copies sold. With the rapid growth of both Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 7 sales, who knows what they could achieve in the future. With Ethan's daughter Rosemary being set up by Capcom to be a future player if not protagonist, Resident Evil won't be going anywhere, anytime soon. That, especially since Resident Evil Village‘s DLCs are still under development, so we're sure to see more of them in the future.
