Resident Evil Village art director responds to the internet’s growing love affair with Lady Dimitrescu

Capcom, Resident Evil Village

Capcom slowly cultivated an air of horror and suspense with its Resident Evil franchise. The games lost sight of the franchise’s early roots with the 5th and 6th installments. Fortunately, Capcom sought to return to its origin with the release of the dark and grim Resident Evil 7. Currently, Capcom aims to continue its trend of dark atmosphere with Resident Evil Village. Unfortunately, their plans seem to have run into a snag when fans around the world completely fell in love with an upcoming RE villain.

Love at First Sight

Resident Evil Village’s first trailer dropped over eight months ago but the initial trailer failed to feature any notable villains. The game’s third trailer showed more of the areas of the upcoming game along with something fans greatly appreciated. We got a first glimpse of a group of villains led by a tall woman dressed in white. Naturally, the internet being the internet, the trailer ignited a wave of adoration towards the upcoming antagonist.

Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters showed in the trailer in a minor capacity but that was enough to capture the hearts of many players. Evidently, many players began to speculate about the specifics of the lead lady villain in question. Most of their queries directed towards her undoubtedly overbearing stature. Many players wondered about the actual height of Lady Dimitrescu but were left guessing aimlessly. Fans expected to continue guessing her height forever.

Fortunately for Resident Evil Village fans around the world, the developers weren’t going to let them suffer a minute longer.

True Community Engagement

Resident Evil Village Art Director Tomonori Takano came along to answer the prayers of every jilted Lady Dimitrescu lover. He expressed his gratitude towards fans and shared a surprising fact.

“Most recently, Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters have received a fair amount of attention, far more than we anticipated. It’s great that they’re able to take the spotlight as icons of Resident Evil Village. Lady Dimitrescu, especially, has received much fanfare both domestically and overseas, which has made all of us in the development team extremely happy. I hear her height is something of interest… If you include her hat and high heels, she’s 2.9m (approximately 9’6″) tall.

The Resident Evil team earnestly reached out to their community.  Unfortunately, fans and players fawning over fictional characters is not an uncommon thing in the industry. Many players tout their near-religious following of fictional characters. This fanaticism extends beyond video games to other forms of media as well. Oftentimes, players and fans pine for characters on their lonesome. However, this time, Capcom actively reached out to engage their audience.

Ultimately, Capcom and the development team behind Resident Evil Village definitely earned points from their most loyal fans. Resident Evil Village officially launches on May 7, 2021.
