Fitness guru Richard Simmons is getting a biopic about his life that will star Pauly Shore.

It’s now in development at The Wolper Organization, a subsidiary of Warner Bros., Deadline reports.

Pauly Shore will star as Richard Simmons in a new biopic

The whole thing came together through the efforts of Shore, who has often had his likeness compared to Simmons. Pauly portrayed the fitness icon in a short film called The Court Jester, which will appear in Park City, Utah, at Sundance.

The Court Jester stars Tamara Brown as Ellen Degeneres and is written and directed by Jake Lewis.

Mark Wolper will produce Simmons’s new biopic, but it’s unclear who else is on board at this point.

On Instagram, Shore said, “I’ve noticed all the reactions to me playing #RichardSimmons in a new biopic. So I reached out to him. I heard he’s living deep in Big Bear. We’ve been playing phone tag (yes, he still has a phone). I’m trying to make it happen for you guys.”

TMZ reports that Richard wants no involvement in the project.

A rep for Simmons said that the project was not authorized and that Richard doesn’t feel like this is the right time to tell his story.

Richard has been a recluse these days, but in the past, he was everywhere. At one point, he had his daytime talk show and was arguably the most well-known fitness star of the ’80s due to his flamboyant personality. He had a passion for weight loss and helping others. His Sweatin’ to the Oldies series was a best-seller.

We’ll keep you posted as more developments occur for this new Richard Simmons and Pauly Shore film.
