Since the Los Angeles Lakers grabbed the second overall pick in this year's draft earlier this week, the rumor mill has been centered on the team taking UCLA product Lonzo Ball with the selection.

However, there is the pressing question of whether his father, LaVar Ball, will affect his draft status. Lakers team president Magic Johnson has already spoken out about the situation, stating that it won't deter the Lakers from taking him if he's available and is the player they want to pick.

In line with that thought process, general manager Rob Pelinka has also aired the same sentiment about LaVar's presence.

With LaVar remaining in the spotlight in the media, it has only detracted further from his public image but that has yet to largely impact how NBA teams view his son. However, that's not to say if his antics continue that it won't turn into a distraction and something that affects his son's career.

That said, Lonzo has proven to be a tremendous talent on the court that has high potential to develop into something special in the NBA. It is his unique skill set and ability that may lead to teams to overlook the constant chattering from his father.

As for the Lakers, there were already reports that the team was “enamored” by Lonzo which could mean that he is their top choice. There is still over a month until the draft, but it's clear that LaVar's actions at this point in time won't have an impact on the Lakers' decision-making process with their No.2 overall pick if his son is still available on the board at that spot.
