The Houston Rockets front office are doing everything in their power to try and make sure that they have a better outing next season. Houston are now setting their sights on their coaching staff, and according to Jonathan Feigen of Chron, the Rockets have decided to bring back former assistant coach Elston Turner for next season.

The Rockets reached agreement on Thursday with long-time NBA assistant Elston Turner to return to the team as lead assistant primarily focused on running the defense, an individual with knowledge of the deal said.

It is worth noting that Turner will be filling the role of Jeff Bzdelik after it was recently announced that Rockets had decided to part ways with the latter. This is a rather curious turn of events following the Houston front office bringing back Bzdelik out of retirement in the middle of last season. Bzdelik was a key cog to the development of the Rockets' defensive prowess over the past years, and it was believed that the team were desperate to have him back.

However, following another disappointing end to the season, the front office have double backed on their earlier decision, and are now going to move on from Bzdelik. Turner, himself quite adept at the Rockets' defensive schemes, is the next man up, and he will definitely have quite a challenge ahead of him.

In his previous stint with Houston, Turner spent four years as an assistant to head coach Rick Adelman.
