Nobody this season has been on the same level as James Harden in terms of scoring.

Following a 61-point performance at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, Harden extended his streak of scoring 30 or more points in consecutive games to 21 games. This places him behind only Wilt Chamberlain, who has streaks of both 25, 31, and 65 games.

A tweet from SportsCenter put another perspective on just how unreal Harden has been lately:

Kyrie Irving is one of the best and most entertaining scorers in the league, but this is a testament to the production Harden has been providing for his team.

Irving, though his 42 games played this season, is averaging 23.5 points, for a total of 985. Harden, through his last 25 games, is averaging 40.6 points per game, for a total of 1,104.

Let that sink in.

Obviously, there are factors influencing this. For instance, the Boston Celtics have been putting forth an effort to involve more players as they’ve been integrating even more talent into their roster this season.

Opposingly, the Houston Rockets, due to injuries and ongoing depth concerns, haven’t had many other options besides letting Harden play absolutely out of his mind.

However, it doesn’t change just how impressive Harden’s historical scoring run has been. Leading the league in scoring with an impressive 36.3 points per game, he has created a comfortable lead in the race for this season’s scoring title.

If the season ended today, Harden would have the seventh highest points per game average in the history of the NBA, and would be the first player to average 35 points for a season since Kobe Bryant in the 2005-06 season.
