The Houston Rockets and John Wall have agreed to part ways, but that doesn't mean the star point guard is going to be traded soon. In fact, a trade for Wall might not happen up until the 2022 offseason.
According to Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle, the Rockets have no plans to move Wall before the trade deadline, which means he could sit out the rest of the upcoming season. The Rockets' thinking behind their refusal to trade Wall is to find good value in return, which requires eating up some part of his contract.

As reported earlier, the Rockets are not thinking of buying out John Wall's contract, which would have been the easiest way for him to get to a contender. The 31-year-old playmaker is due $44 million in 2021-22 and another $47 million in 2022-23, and that makes it hard for Houston to find a trade partner with enough cap space to take the hit.
Not to mention that the Rockets are reportedly not willing to package a first-round pick to send Wall away.
With that said, it does make sense why Houston is holding off on trading Wall. They remain firm in helping him land to a contender, and sitting him during the season should allow them to protect his health and value until they find a fitting destination where he could thrive and the team could get some solid assets in return.
It remains to be seen where Wall will end up with, but it is best not to expect any deal happening throughout the new campaign.
