Kris Bryant shocked the MLB world when he signed with the Colorado Rockies during the offseason. Sure, Coors Field and it's elevation provide an advantage for hitters. But most people expected Bryant to sign with a contender. After all, this is a player who has been on winning teams for the majority of his big league career. What is even more shocking is that Kris Bryant did not hit his first Rockies home run until July 5th.

KB has been sidelined due to injuries for most of the season As a result, the third baseman/outfielder has played in just 24 games. But it's still surprising to hear that his first home run didn't come until July.

Kris Bryant commented on finally smashing his first round-tripper in a Rockies uniform, per Rockies beat writer Patrick Saunders.

“Sometimes you go through stretches, I don't think that was the longest stretch of my career (without a home run). I mean, I've had plenty where I feel I was having good at-bats, hit the ball hard, but it just wasn't going over the fence,” Bryant said. “You play the game long enough you kind of go through spells like that, but it's kinda good to just get one out of the way. Now we can focus on getting back to just the baseball.”

The 30-year old has been productive in limited action despite the lack of power. Bryant is slashing .293/.350/.380. Colorado is hopeful he can increase his slugging percentage and add a few more extra base hits to the stat line. But for the most part, Kris Bryant has demonstrated why he is a former MVP and 4-time All-Star.
