The Tokyo Olympics are getting ready to begin and the whole world is excited, especially after postponing them in 2020 due to the global pandemic. Unfortunately, tennis superstar Roger Federer announced his decision to withdraw in a statement on Tuesday.

Federer said it is due to a setback from his knee injury and says he is working to make a return to the tour in the Summer. The Switzerland team will surely miss Federer and so will global tennis fans who don't get to watch one of the best in the world hit the court.

Federer is a four-time participant in the Olympics, starting back in 2000 in the Sydney games. He also has a gold medal and silver medal, and sadly won't be able to attempt to add more to his trophy case after having to withdraw from the games in Tokyo.

The Olympics are set to begin on July 23, although fans won't be allowed in attendance after Japan declared a state of emergency due to the ongoing pandemic, putting the games in serious jeopardy.

Hopefully Roger Federer can make a return to the court sooner rather than later, and it will be strange watching Olympic tennis without seeing one of the best players in the world participate.
