During the 2016-2017 season, 24-year-old center Rudy Gobert struggled mightily from the free throw line for the Utah Jazz. He shot meager 56.9 % at the foul line during the 2015-16 season, after managed just 62.3% in the previous year.

Gobert’s deficiencies when fouled make him a target for opposing coaches, looking to execute ‘hack-a-Shaq’ tactic late in games.

After a summer of working on his game, Gobert may have come back stronger. During the Jazz’s preseason game against the Phoenix Suns this week, Gobert made 13 of his 14 free throw attempts.

Utah fans are hoping that the efficient shooting isn’t an anomaly and that it’s a sign of true improvement from the Frenchman. Gobert clearly believes that there is more of the same to come:

Despite the recently injury to Gordon Hayward, the Jazz are expected to have a breakout season, due to their young, athletic roster. With his elite level rim protection and defensive presence, Gobert will play a major part in his team’s development.

Over the span of three years in the NBA, Gobert has averaged 7.2 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.
