It has been a rough few months for Ryan Garcia. He was accused of using performance-enhancing substances prior to his boxing match against Devin Haney. Then, they clarified that this was probably a result of contaminating the things that he was ingesting prior to the bout against the WBC junior welterweight title. The American even got arrested for vandalism. Now, a lot of talking heads have been weighing on his situation and it even caught Gervonta Davis' attention. But, an unexpected move was made after all of this.

Ryan Garcia is retiring from professional boxing. The American who notched the WBC interim lightweight title announced the big move on his X account two months after taking Devin Haney down.

“I’m officially retired,” Garcia wrote.

Garcia even outlined his plans to stay within the realm of boxing even after his retirement.

“Y'all may catch me out and about but as far as boxing I don’t know. There is so much corruption I’m over it. I may do acting or singing. I’ll still be training but I’m hurt and done with it and everyone. The sad part is I’m a great boxer and I entertain and knock people out. I’m sad bc I 💙 boxing. Praying for everyone and I hope everyone has a great life.”

However, this does not mean that Garcia will not miss giving his heart out in battles for WBC belts or just boxing competitively.

“Boxing will be alright without me but still sucks I was fun in the game and it was fun to punch people,” the boxer added.

There is still no explicit reason as to why Garcia chose to retire after his fight with Haney. But, the issue with Ostarine could have played a huge part in that decision.

The triumph over Haney could have led to a lot of great opportunities for Garcia. All of it took a sour turn since he was deemed underweight to score the WBC junior welterweight title. It was after this fact that their camp also found out that there were traces of Ostarine in Garcia. His camp immediately released a statement and made big claims.

“This confirms what we have consistently maintained: Ryan was a victim of supplement contamination and has never intentionally used any banned or performance-enhancing substances. Any claims to the contrary, questioning Ryan's integrity as a clean fighter, are unequivocally false and defamatory.”

Despite the decision to retire, officials will still look into possibly giving Garcia a hefty punishment for the findings. Overturning the Haney decision also remains a possibility. Regardless, he did find someone who believed in him amid all of the noise. It was none other than Gervonta Davis who showed a lot of love to his fellow American boxer.

“Stay up kid. Continue to be you. We’ll see each other in the future. I don’t believe he’s a cheater…He didn’t cheat…”

It was still one heck of a career that Garcia had despite hanging the gloves up at just 25 years old. He finished with a 25-win record while only ever enduring one loss. Of those 25 bouts, 20 of them came in the form of knockouts
