Even before he reached the NFL, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara was never going to conform and change who he is—including what he attaches to his face.

In a segment with Uninterrupted, the Saints star revealed that he was asked by a team official if he would lose his nose ring during the 2017 pre-draft process. Kamara's answer was succinct and steadfast.

“I had a team before I went into a meeting, one of the guys came up to me and was like, ‘Well, you’re about to go in with the G.M. so, you know, he doesn’t really understand the nose rings and things like that. So you might want to — can you take them out or tuck them?’ I was like, ‘No,'” the Saints RB shared.

“Basically, if you don’t understand it or you don’t like it, then you don’t need to draft me. It wouldn’t be a good choice to draft me.”

Smartly enough, the Saints were concerned with talent rather than jewelry and all that off-court antics.  The New Orleans football club then selected the former Tennessee Volunteers standout in the third round (no. 67 overall).

Needless to say, it turned out to be one of the best picks in franchise history. Alvin Kamara has averaged roughly 1,500 total yards over his first four NFL seasons. He has made the Pro Bowl four times and was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2017.

In 2020, he led New Orleans with 932 yards rushing on five yards per attempt. He ran for 16 touchdowns and caught five.

Last September, he earned a five-year, $75 million contract (ostensibly) that could tie him to the Saints through the 2025 season.

Now, in the wake of the retirement of Drew Brees, the 25-year old halfback is the face of the franchise—nose ring and all.
