The New Orleans Saints have struggled to find a franchise QB after Drew Brees retired in 2021. New Orleans tried out a handful of players before landing on Derek Carr during the 2023 offseason. He has been solid for New Orleans, but the Saints will be expecting a lot more in a crucial 2024 season.

Carr recently appeared on the Green Light Podcast with Chris Long. Carr says that despite his friendship with Maxx Crosby, he knows he’s a psychopath when it comes to the game.

“One thing I know about Maxx is, he’s a psychopath, and so he’s going to want to rip my head off, but he’s still one of my best friends,” Carr said. “We bought each other, he bought me this diamond chain ‘DC4’ chain for Christmas, I got him a ‘98’ silver and black chain. We’re good friends.”

Chris Long joked with Carr about whether he knows the retail value of the chain in question.

“I have not just out of respect of him just buying that gift,” Carr said. “I didn’t’ even want to know, but may not be a bad idea to know what that is.”

Long also gave Carr some sage advice about insuring his bling.

“Yeah honestly rainy day kind of thing, you might want to get that thing insured,” Long said. “You gotta get those insured I’m pretty sure KirkCo (Kirk Cousins) has his chains insured bro.”

He is of course referencing the popular video of Kirk Cousins wearing his teammates' jewelry after a win with the Vikings.

“I may actually wear that one that week to the game, just because he bought it for me,” Carr joked. “It’d be hilarious.”

The Las Vegas Raiders play the New Orleans Saints in Week 17. It will be an obvious revenge game for Derek Carr who will face off against his former team and teammates. The game will take place in New Orleans.

Saints head coach Dennis Allen heaps praise on rookie QB Spencer Rattler

Considering how late in the season the Saints' matchup with the Raiders is, it seems fair to question whether Carr will still be the starting QB.

Carr could miss the game due to injury of course, but he may also lose his starting job to rookie QB Spencer Rattler.

The fifth-round pick recently received praise from Saints head coach Dennis Allen. He says that Rattler will be able to compete with Derek Carr right away in training camp.

“I think the plan is that he comes in and really basically competes and we'll let the cards kind of play out as they do,” Allen said. “We were excited about the fact that we got into the fifth round and he was still there. I think you know from where we had him graded on our board we felt like this player was probably more of a second or third round talent, and the fact that he was still sitting there in the in the fifth round I think a lot of that has to do with the fact there were six quarterbacks already taken in this draft uh and that's a little bit of a unique position in terms of the draft. So the fact that he fell all the way to us to the fifth round we're really excited about that, he's got tremendous talent.”

There is no guarantee that Carr loses his job, but it is clear that the Saints don't want him to feel too comfortable.
