New Orleans Saints safety Malcolm Jenkins has been hired by CNN to be a contributor on race and social justice issues. As part of his duties, he will appear on a couple of different CNN studio shows.

Jenkins has been very outspoken about social justice issues, including kneeling. He was very outspoken when Drew Brees initially said he couldn't get behind anyone who kneeled for the national anthem.

Jenkins said in a statement that he believes he can be a great voice for athletes who for years have been working to change legislation and policies regarding human equality:

“Having spent years running non-profits and supporting grassroots organizations to address the inequalities of our criminal justice system, educational system and disparate wealth in our marginalized communities, I believe I can be a voice for other athlete activists and those who have dedicated their lives to changing legislation, policies and reforms for human equality,” Jenkins said via Pro Football Talk. “Now more than ever, the public needs to be educated on the roles of elected positions of power, such as the District Attorney, Police Chief or City Council and how to hold those individuals accountable, especially through their voice and their vote. In an important election year, I’m eager to join the CNN family and share my perspective as a regular contributor.”

Malcolm Jenkins still has some good years left in the NFL, but it's pretty clear once he retires it won't be the end of his time in the media. He will continue to fight for reform for the marginalized communities.

Who knows, maybe that will include being apart of the CNN team long after he retires.
