New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has come under fire for his recent comments regarding the Colin Kaepernick situation that captivated the NFL in 2016. Brees' comments, which are the quarterback's first in the wake of George Floyd's killing last week, revolve around the fact that the quarterback will “never agree with anybody disrespecting the flag of the United States of America.”

Despite Brees getting flack from media and even his own teammates for the comments made during his interview with Yahoo Finance, one Saints player has come to his quarterback's defense.

Third-year defensive end and former first-round pick Marcus Davenport took to Twitter to come to Brees' aid. As Davenport would explain, Brees' comments do not reflect his opinion on the recent protests over police brutality and racial injustice but instead, only reflect his opinion on kneeling during the anthem.

However, Davenport is the definite minority in defending Brees as many NFL players have called the future Hall of Famer out on his comments. The criticism goes beyond football, too, as athletes like Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and former NBA star Stephen Jackson have both addressed the Saints' quarterback's comments.

As for Brees himself, 2020 is expected by many to be the final season that wraps up a Hall of Fame career. Despite a hand injury forcing him to miss five games last season, the veteran signal-caller still managed to complete 74.3 percent of his passes for 2,979 yards, 27 touchdowns, and only four interceptions.
