The ongoing protests in response to the death of George Floyd while being detained by Minneapolis police has also brought up an old argument in the NFL concerning Colin Kaepernick and his protest of police brutality by kneeling during the National Anthem. New Orleans Saints' quarterback Drew Brees weighed in on Wednesday and expressed that he is against kneeling, calling it disrespectful to veterans.

Brees' statement created almost immediate controversy. And among those who disagree includes the quarterback's best target, wide receiver Michael Thomas. Safe to say, he's not too happy with his quarterback and does not hold the same opinion about kneeling in protest.

Thomas took to Twitter to weigh in:

Based on his tweets, it's clear that the wide receiver does not agree with his teammate. For the sake of the Saints, hopefully this is not a problem on the field.

Thomas and Brees are one of the most effective duos in the NFL. And with Brees' age, they have a limited amount of time to try and capitalize on it.

That being said, there are things that are much bigger things than sports. This is one of those examples. With so much happening across the nation, sports is taking a backseat.

While sports is a great escape from reality, reality does not magically disappear. That's why stars are voicing their opinions. They are still people, something we all need to remind ourselves.

With that in mind, it's not surprising that there are difference of opinions to Brees' stance, even among his own teammates. Let's just hope that Thomas and Brees do not have a complete falling out off the field from this situation, or the Saints could find themselves in a tough spot on the field.
