The New Orleans Saints suffered their worst loss of the 2019 NFL season at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons. Unfortunately, it appears they were dealt an even more significant blow regarding guard Andrus Peat.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Peat is expected to miss six weeks after suffering a broke arm in the 26-9 loss to the Falcons:

Saints’ Pro-Bowl G Andrus Peat, playing at a Pro-Bowl level again, broke his arm during Sunday’s loss to the Falcons and underwent surgery today that is expected to sideline him six weeks, per source.

The injury occurred during the second quarter after he was seen heading to the locker room with a trainer and was never able to make his return. There is no question that the update on Peat undoubtedly deals a devastating blow to the offensive line.

The timing of the injury is hardly ideal for New Orleans. They allowed quarterback Drew Brees to be sacked a whopping six times by an Atlanta pass rush that had largely struggled to find its footing all year long. To make matters worse, they are entering arguably the most crucial stretch of the 2019 campaign with three straight NFC south matchups before having to host the formidable San Francisco 49ers in Week 14.

Peat had been replaced by backup guard Will Clapp during the loss against the Falcons. Clapp will certainly have his work cut out trying to maintain the high level of play left by the Pro Bowler. Although some drop-off is to be expected, the onus will fall on the rest of the offensive line to pick up the slack in Peat's absence.
