Richard Sherman linked to New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints are among the teams with interest in veteran cornerback Richard Sherman.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported there is some familiarity with Sherman’s former defensive backs coach, Kris Richard, now in New Orleans. Pelissero also noted the Saints are in the market for a corner after cutting ties with Janoris Jenkins.
The #Saints are among the teams expressing interest in five-time Pro Bowl CB Richard Sherman, per sources. Sherman’s old DBs coach in Seattle, Kris Richard, now has the same job in New Orleans and the team is in the cornerback market after releasing Janoris Jenkins.

New Orleans’ cap issues have not precluded it from spending some cash.
General manager Mickey Loomis has still gotten busy. The Saints used the franchise tag on Marcus Williams. They also gave Taysom Hill a large, voidable extension following Drew Brees’ official retirement announcement. Even more recently, New Orleans brought back Jameis Winston to compete with Hill for the starting quarterback spot.
The Saints still have some work to do to get under the threshold. But Loomis and Co. are still pursuing upgrades. Sherman might also be willing to take a bit of a pay cut for the chance to win a Super Bowl in New Orleans.
The 32-year-old’s career looked like it was starting to trend downward after Sherman suffered an Achilles injury in November of 2017. He struggled in his first year with the San Francisco 49ers.
But Sherman had a rebirth in 2019, making the Pro Bowl after finishing the season with three interceptions and 11 passes defended.
Sherman played just five games in 2020 and struggled in coverage even when he was healthy. However, the presence of Kris Richard might be a factor in the Saints’ belief Sherman can regain his Pro Bowl form. Signing with New Orleans would also offer Sherman the chance to join one of the best defenses in football.
