With Drew Brees out for the foreseeable future, you would naturally think the New Orleans Saints would turn to Teddy Bridgewater as their starting quarterback.

But while that will probably end up happening, head coach Sean Payton isn't committing to anything just yet, going as far to say that he has not even ruled out Taysom Hill as the starter for Week 3.

“You’re assuming he’s the No. 2,” Payton said of Hill, according to Rod Walker of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. “We’ll approach this game with two quarterbacks. We’ll have the right plan relative to what those guys are going to be doing.”

Of course, this is almost surely just gamesmanship on the part of Payton, but he isn't fooling anybody.

When Brees suffered his thumb injury early during the Saints' loss to the Los Angeles Rams this past weekend, Bridgewater relieved him and finished the game.

Unlike Hill, Bridgewater actually has legitimate experience as a starting quarterback in the NFL, as he was under center for the Minnesota Vikings in 2014 and 2015 before a devastating knee injury during the summer of 2016 cost him his job.

The 26-year-old owns a career record of 17-12 as a starter, throwing for 6,433 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions while completing 64.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 85.5.

Bridgewater, who played his collegiate football at the University of Louisville, was originally selected by the Vikings in the first round (32nd pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

New Orleans is currently 1-1 and will take on the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday.
