Former All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson is off to a strong start to the 2018 season in what has been out to a career resurgence with the Washington Redskins.

However, Peterson isn't too far removed from his brief tenure with the New Orleans Saints where things had quickly unfolded between both sides that led his departure via a trade. Ahead of the Redskins and Saints' Monday night showdown, head coach Sean Payton voiced that he believes the 33-year-old is “a perfect fit” with Washington, according to M of the Washington Times.

“I think it’s been a perfect fit really,” Payton said. “When he was here, we still saw it. We still saw everything through the offseason into the regular season. The challenge for us became just the amount of touches with the number of backs we had, but I think it’s a great match.”

Peterson has quickly taken hold of the starting job and ran away with it in Washington as their most effective runner through first three games played with 236 rushing yards and three touchdowns along with five catches for 100 receiving yards. This includes coming off a season-high 120 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the 31-17 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 3. He is currently on pace to garner 1,259 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns at the pace that he has begun the 2018 campaign.

He has proven that he has plenty left in the tank to perform at a high level while continuing to extend his illustrious career. He is getting the chance to take on the workload that he hoped to get with the Saints, but they had a crowded backfield that was full of Pro Bowl talent in Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara.

Ultimately, Peterson has the chance to possibly get back on the map as a premier running back that he wanted to do so with New Orleans.
